Menorcan Heritage Month is an important time at the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum! In 1798, Don Andres Ximenez built this elegant three-story coquina home for his wife, Juana Pellicer, and their children. Juana’s father, Francisco Pellicer, was a key figure in the Menorcan exodus of 1777, when he led nearly 600 people from New Smyrna to freedom in St. Augustine, leaving behind their bondage under Dr. Andrew Turnbull. Their resettlement was welcomed by British Governor Colonel Patrick Tonyn. A master carpenter by trade, Francisco Pellicer may also have had a hand in constructing this very home.
