Florida: The 27th Star

Experience the hope and despair of Florida's Territorial Period through the eyes of a contemporary boy.  With him, see how the clash of wealthy planters, independent Crackers, oppressed Blacks and proud Seminoles contributed to Florida's evolution from a territory to a state.  The story begins with a modern day boy in the school library. He inserts a disk into a computer and discovers an interactive encounter with the events of Florida's Territorial Period.

This video (now available in DVD) was designed as an additional educational resource for this period of Florida's history.  While it is aimed primarily at intermediate students, it should be of interest to all those who care about history, historic structures and our priceless heritage.  If you would like a copy of the Student Activities Packet, please click here.

Florida: The 27th Star received a Golden Quill Electronic Media Award from the Florida Historical Society in 1996.  This video production was officially sanctioned as a part of the Florida Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1995.
